Singer-songwriter Kateřina Syrná comes from Tábor. She loves jazz, samba and bossa nova, and it shows in her original work. She learned her first guitar chords at the age of 12, and by then she had already begun to secretly compose her first simple songs for the drawer.
She bought an electric guitar in high school and started playing in the garage with a group of boys who introduced her to a guitar teacher who was very important to her. Thanks to him, she became familiar with classical playing techniques, discovered jazz harmonies and Latin American rhythms.
For a long time, the guitar remained just a big hobby. After the birth of her daughter, she no longer had time to play and rehearse with a band, so she started performing alone. She focused more on Czech lyrics, into which she puts her own experiences and feelings. In March 2023, she won the South Bohemian regional round of Porty and advanced to the final in Řevnice, from where she brought home second place. This convinced her that dedicating herself fully to music made sense. So she left her field of study in geodesy and cartography and embarked on a musical journey as a guitar teacher and singer-songwriter. She collaborates with singer and composer Pavla Ambrožová, with whom Porty won the South Bohemian round this year and advanced to the national round.
